Guitar String Gauges

Whether you are a new or veteran guitar player, you will need to decide which gauge of strings will be right for you. If you are a beginner, the usual suggestion is to start off with a lighter gauge and work your way up as you develop callouses on your fingers, and get accustomed to playing chords, etc. This is really good advice, as hurting fingers and frustration trying to hold down heavy strings in a chord are a couple reasons people give up in disgust. Once U Can Play The Guitar, and your fingers have quit hurting so much, you may want to move into a medium set of strings as you will find that they will stay in tune better, not break as easily, and just generally be louder. A good gauge for all around playing is a medium set, usually with the high e being .010.
