Liviing with ear hearing Loss

Hearing loss is a serious problem in this country, affecting millions of Americans. Many of these people are not even aware that they suffer from hearing loss because it is usually a gradual and painless process that goes unnoticed at first.

There are many causes of hearing loss, such as, ageing, heredity, illness, injury and ear wax to name a few. Ear wax (cerumen) is a natural substance secreted by the glands in the ear canal to help protect against insects, dust and bacteria from getting into the ear. Cleaning with cotton swabs on a stick (Q-tips) can cause damage to the ear structure or can result in pacing the ear wax deeper into the ear causing a blockage and temporary hearing loss.

Many people may not realize that the ear cannel should take care of itself naturally and that simply wiping the outer ear with tissue over the finger should be sufficient for cleaning purposes. The wax in the ear cannel traps anything from outside the ear then dries and flakes out of the ear naturally. There are medications your doctor can prescribe to soften ear wax if necessary. Any problem related to the inner ear requires the attention of a doctor even if it is a simple ear wax blockage.
