My Grandmother’s 80th Birthday

My grandmother’s birthday was coming up, and I wasn’t sure what to get her. I mean, what do you get an 80 year old woman who has everything she could need and buys whatever she wants? I thought about getting her a music box, but she already had three. I thought about perfume, but I wasn’t sure what kind she wore. I thought about just visiting, but that wasn’t going to cut it. So, I came up with a plan. I visited one of the florists in Sacramento, bought her a large bouquet of roses, and showed up on her front doorstep to ask her out to dinner. She loved it. In fact, she started to cry. Over dinner she explained that no one had done that since long before grandpa died over 20 years ago. We had a great time as she told stories about grandpa and their life together. I’ll never forget it, especially since that was the last time I saw my grandmother; she went to heaven to ask grandpa out on a date two weeks later.
