Recession in the legal world
The recession has changed the law industry in Toronto Lawyers are finding it hard to find work, some law firms have been offering lawyers bonuses to not show up for work, some of the compensation they’ve been offering new graduates is $80,000 to not work for a year, this means they can’t go to another firm, and this ties the lawyer to the firm when the recession ends. Now $80,000 might sound like a lot of money but for a new graduate they may have to pay hundreds of thousands of student loans they borrowed studying law, so this is a tough environment even for some lawyers.
