The New Zealand economy appears to be firmly moving towards a recession which is prompting the central bank to signal further rate cuts ahead. As a result, there has been an exit out of New Zealand dollars due to economic concerns and the prospect of diminishing interest rate differentials. The New Zealand currency has declined over the past few weeks and will likely continue to do so in light of the current economic fundamentals. Traders and investors are increasingly turning their attention to the US dollar which is showing signs of a short term turnaround in response to falling crude oil, commodity prices and central bank coordinated intervention.
