Some basics about gold eagles
The American Eagle coins are minted in the United States of America and authorized by the Gold Bullion Act of 1985. The Gold eagle family has received platinum as an additional precious metal to the group. The current gold eagles are minted in three precious metals; namely, Gold, Silver and Platinum. These gold eagle coins coins are valued at their actual gold content and not as some have suggested, their numismatic value. A numismatic coin is any rare coin, the value of which is determined by the limited mintage, scarcity and it physical condition, among other factors.
I would caution to say that there are some really rare gold eagle coins and I am sure that in the future some of these coins will become harder to find, especially the years where the proofs were minted in limited quantities.
