Why I needed some Biztalk lessons.

I work for an accounting firm in the Midwest.  Nine days ago all the employees were told that we had some new changes in how we do business.  The IT guys were brought in to give us an overview of what was going to happen.  To sum it up they said that the new system was called Biztalk and it integrated many different business functions by allowing different software systems to talk with one another. I thought it sounded awesome;however I am not too much of a software guy outside of accounting software.  I thought it might be wise to get a Biztalk Tutorial.  This way I could get a heads up.

Open Source Governance Policy

There was a legal judgment last August which is pretty significant in terms of upholding the rights of open source copyright and license holders.

The Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit Court, which is considered the most important intellectual property appeals court in the US, upheld a open source copyright license.

In non-technical terms, the Court has held that open source licenses have the right to set conditions on the use of copyrighted work. So, even if an open source license does not collect royalty fees, it is a copyright license and the conditions need to be honored.  If you violate the condition, the license disappears, and you are a copyright infringer.  In other words, a open source license is just like a commercial license in that if you use the open source, you have to honor the conditions of the license.

This is very significant as some previously had the theory that because an open source license did not collect monetary fees, there was no real “contract” and the conditions in the license were not really enforceable.

So there you have it.  Many engineers in commercial software companies download open source and incorporate it into their commercial software, without honoring the license obligations.  This case, clearly establishes that the license obligations must be honored, or it is a case of copyright infringement which can lead to losing battles in court.

All of this reinforces the basic conclusion, commercial software developers should set a open source governance policy.  They should decide which open source licenses have conditions which are acceptable to the organization and can be fulfilled.  Any licenses which have conditions which are not acceptable should not be approved.

The organization should scan for open source the current code base and remove any open source which is associated with licenses which are not approved and not acceptable to the organization.  For many commercial organizations, this is usually open source associated with the GPL license, which accounts for over 50% of the projects in open source repositories like Sourceforge.

The policy should also be enforced going forward, ie, the organization should review new proposed additions of open source to the commercial code base, and should decide if the proposed addition license is acceptable before approving the addition.

Another poor blogger

I’ve tried for nearly two years now to make money blogging, but I’ve had very little success. It is so frustrating to see these other bloggers advertise how much they make with their blogs! Either they are inflating their numbers, or I am just terrible at blogging. Unfortunately, I’m afraid it’s the latter. I guess some people are just not cut out to be creative and write interesting blogs. I’ve tried just about everything I can, from hiring writers to scraping content from other blogs…nothing seems to work for me. After two years, I think it’s time for me to give up and move on. I’m at the point that I no longer enjoy doing many of my blogs, so why continue?

Is Comcast Cable TV a Good Deal?

You see, the digital TV transmission format that Comcast Cable TV now uses to deliver its television programming is really just based on transmitted computer data over the cable to the subscribers’ homes where digital TV receivers convert that data into the picture and sound that makes up the TV programs that you enjoy!

When you look at it that way, it actually makes sense that cable TV technology should be very amenable to the transmission of Internet data as well.  The fact is that this technology is so amenable to Internet service that it’s the fastest form of high speed Internet that’s available in private homes at this point!  While other residential high speed Internet technologies like satellite and DSL provide 3 mbps of bandwidth- at the most- broad band cable Internet access delivers 8 mbps.

A Way To Choose

Remodeling a home can be a very difficult task, and can take a lot of imagination. When my husband and I got started on certain parts of our home, such as the kitchen, we did not realize that it would be so hard to decide what to put in it. Luckily, we were able to use a friend’s 3d Kitchen Design Software, and it was perfect at showing us what we could expect. I believe that every person needs a program like this if they are expecting to have a successful remodel. A lot of money goes into something like this, and it should be used wisely.

I have decided to broadcast on the internet

The many years I’ve been shooting video and stockpiling a very good library of good footage.  So I decided to broadcast on the internet however it is not so easy as finding out about all the technology is quite difficult. one thing I did find however was a book called The Internet TV book. it basically outlined everything I need to know from encoding  To uploading to the different types of software available. you to know she showed your content just like a normal TV station now  Rather than using the old-fashioned video on demand. I hope to make a lot of money from my new Internet TV station.

Zune vs iPod

I’m one of the few people with both an iPod and a Zune. I got the Zune first because of the larger screen but once the iPod touch came out, I couldnt resist anymore. I gotta be honest, maybe its because it is new, but the Zune is no way near as cool as the iPod Touch. The zune Blog has hinted at the possiblity of a Zune touch but that is still a while away and I doubt it will have the same amount of apps and developer support as the iPod Touch. I don’t know what I am going to do with my Zune though.

Nintendo Australia wants to stop DS piracy

Nintendo Austrailia has just announced that they have just enlisted the Australian Federal Police in order to crack down on Nintendo DS piracy. So what is Nintendo DS piracy? With the recent emergence of the r4ds and other flash card devices, people have been taking old games and uploading them onto their Nintendo DS without having to pay for it. So what is piracy mean to Nintendo? basically if Nintendo doesn’t make any money off of it, they call it piracy. Lets not kid ourselves over how much Nintendo has made off the ideas of others. If this isn’t piracy, then I don’t know what is.
